Total Online Spend for the 28 days ending 28 May 2015 is $239 million which represents an increase of 9.3°/o vs the same period last year.
Given the current rate of annual growth. on line spend is projected to reach $3.3 Billion annually over the next 12 months. driven by a 13.3°/o increase in on line spend with offshore merchants together with a 9.7% increase in online spend with local retailers.
The strongest on line sector overall was Travel & Accommodation, which has seen strong gains of 12.6% compared to the same period last year, and 10.8% compared to last month.
Aside from this, the strongest gains were seen by Home & Building Supplies (+81.8%, although off a very small base), and Recreation & Entertainment (+11.9%).
Declines were seen by Liquor Stores (again, off a very small base) as well as Books & Stationery, echoing the offline trend.
The good new:s for New Zealand retailers Is that New Zealand based merchants appear to be growlng their onUne spend more quickly than offshore merchants this period. New Zealand on line merchants Ollerall grew by 1:3.5% vs last year, while Offshore relililers grew by just 4%.
New Zealand merchants took the lion's share of Travel & Accommodation and showed st.Tonger growth than their overseas counterparts (+17,4% for NZ merchants compared to +s% for offshore merchants).
Recreation & Entertainment showed stronger growth In New Zealand this period at +24,9%. compared to last year.
